If you’ve ever dreamt of publishing a book of your very own, now is the time to make your dream a reality. In just seven easy steps, Eber & Wein makes publishing simple and affordable.

Step 1:

The first thing you should do is put together a manuscript. There are a number of ways you can do this. If you have access to a computer, this step might be as simple as opening a file with your poems or stories and saving it to a CD. Manuscripts that are submitted digitally on a CD or disk can be typeset for $5 per page. However, don’t worry if computers aren’t your strong point. You can also gather a hard copy of your writing—whether typewritten or neatly handwritten—and we can do the typing for you. The cost to lay out a hard copy manuscript like this is $7 per page for poetry and $10 per page for prose.

Let’s say you want to submit a 50-page book on a disk. The pre-press fee for your book would be $250 (50 pages x $5/pg.). Keep in mind that in order for the binding of the book to hold together properly, your manuscript should be a minimum of 48 pages. If you would like text to appear on the spine of your book, you need to have a minimum of 80 pages. The title, copyright page, and any introductory material must be included in your page count. A table of contents is optional, but if you would like to include this in your book, you should make a list of your poems in the order you prefer.

Step 2:

Once you’ve gathered your materials, you will want to choose a cover. You can select from our stock cover collection for $20. This fee includes a personal photo on the back cover along with your author information. If you are artistic and would like to design a cover all your own, you can submit a personal design for $35. Keep in mind for this option you will need to provide a camera-ready, high-resolution cover on a disk or on a clear, vibrant print-out that we can scan. If you have a high-resolution photograph that you would like us to use to design a cover for you, we can do this for $50. The final cover option available is our graphic artist cover design. For $75, we can fully design a cover based on your vision and input. No matter which option you choose, we suggest that you personalize your cover by providing a photo and write-up about yourself for the back cover.

Step 3:

The next thing you should do in preparing to publish your book is choose your interior design elements. If you like a font style that is traditional, you should choose something like Times or Garamond. If you favor a more ornate font, you could select Monotype Corsiva or Lucida Calligraphy. Simply let us know your preference, and we can implement that font in your book. You should also let us know if you prefer to have your poems aligned to the left or centered.

Step 4:

If you would like to include photographs or illustrations in your book, you may do so as long as the images are high-resolution. These can be submitted on a disk or by hard copy, and the cost for each piece of artwork is $15. The images will be black and white unless you are doing a full-color book, and if you are doing a children’s book with images on most of the pages, we can create an individual quote for you. Please contact us for further information about children’s books.

Step 5:

We offer a few additional services that may be beneficial to you as you publish your work. To further ensure that your work is professionally presented, we recommend that you have it proofread for spelling and grammatical errors. The fee for this service is $5.25 per page. If you choose not to utilize this service, you will want to have someone with an English background—whether friend or family member—do this for you. It really makes a difference in the final product. We also offer copy editing services in which your content is critically analyzed. We will make suggestions to improve language, tone and structure, and we would be happy to give you an individualized quote if you are interested in this assistance.

Every book we publish receives an ISBN (International Standard Book Number), which identifies and distinguishes your book. However, if you would like to further protect your work, we can register your book with the Library of Congress on your behalf for $100.

Step 6:

Once you have taken care of your pre-press options, you should start thinking about how many books you would like to order. The prices for your books will vary depending on book type, the size you choose, and the quantity you order. We can ship as few as five copies or as many as several thousand, all depending on your publishing needs. Our standard book is 6 x 9, perfect-bound with black and white interior, but you can choose a different type if you prefer. For a complete list of book types, sizes and printing prices, please download our order form.

Step 7:

Once you have completed steps 1-6, you will be ready to publish. The only thing left for you to do is make a deposit toward your project. We only require a half payment in order to begin the layout of your book. After the pre-press work is complete, we will send you a proof copy in the mail to review. At that time you will have an opportunity to review your work and make any changes or corrections necessary. You can wait to pay the balance of your account when you send us your final proof corrections. Your books will be sent to you around 6-8 weeks after we receive your final corrections and payment.

Once you are ready to publish, please download our Self-Publishing Order Form and Stock Cover Design Sheet and mail them in with your manuscript.
